I love my handyman!

Saturday evening, we realized that we had no hot water. Great. Robb went downstairs to check the water tank and found that the pilot light wouldn't stay lit. We had heat in the house, so knew it wasn't a gas problem. He came upstairs, went to Google and found out that we had a bad thermal coupling. This is basically a little wire that is the safety shut off mechanism for the water heater. When the pilot light is lit, the wire feels the heat, and keeps the gas valve open. Should the pilot light go off, the wire is cold, sending a signal to shut off the gas. The coupling was bad, so the heater thought that it was cold, so it would shut off the gas, and that's why the pilot light wouldn't stay lit. Instead of calling a repair company that would've surely charged at least a few hundred to fix this on a Saturday, Robb took off the old wire, went to Ace, and quickly put a new one on! It was fixed in about 30 minutes. How wonderful to have such a handy guy around!
